What can I use water for?

We talked about where we could find water; in a tap, down the toilet, in a waterfall, the rain. Then we looked for water around our school.

Oh no! The mermaids have no water to swim in. How can we get water across to them using utensils with holes?

Mrs Jones visited the hair salon. What good service!

We have been watching our tadpoles grow everyday.

Reading books all about them.

Miss Williams asked us how the rain washes Incy Wincy Spider out of the water spout. Let's investigate.

Making our own Incy Wincy Spiders.

Bouncing different sized balls.

Balancing on the benches.

Making anticlockwise circles and waves listening to Smetana's, Vltava.

Also writing our letters in different ways.

In Reception we have also been exploring 2D shapes....

... and sorting 2D shapes.

Numbers, Numbers All Around

We’ve been writing our number symbols in lots of different ways.

With paintbrushes and paint ...

...with sticks in the mud.

We used large brushes and water...

... and we wrote lots of numbers on the floor.

We counted Ten Green Bottles in the water tray.

It's been a busy week in our hair salon!

Water, Water Everywhere

We’ve been finding out about how water

looks, tastes, smells and sounds.

We’re listening carefully to watery sound effects via the ipad. Now is that a waterfall we can hear or waves on a beach?

Look how clever we are writing our sounds.

This is fun, using shaving foam ...

... and painting on the windows!
.

Let’s experiment filling and emptying these containers with water.

We’re counting how many items we can put in milk bottles and writing our own number labels.

Look at the beautiful flowers we’ve made to grow in our indoor garden.

Pitter Patter Puddle Play

We began our new topic this week but where are all the puddles!

Let's go on a hunt and see if we can find any water.

Coats and welllies on and we're ready.

Look at what we found ...

 a water fountain and

 a bird bath.

This look interesting, the water's a funny colour.

At last, a puddle!

.

Another puddle! Let's splish. splash, splosh.

Now, how can we get this water out of the wheelbarrow? We'll use the watering can.

Let's make a trail with water and see if we can follow it.

We've had lots of fun experimenting with water.

We've been drawing lots of circles this week.

In the Reception class we listened to Smetana's Vltava and made up our own story of a feather travelling along a spring, past a meadow, crashing into boulders before passing a wedding.

We're counting worms and sorting them into tens and units.

Thursday 6 March 2014

This week we’ve been thinking and talking all about our last topic
Dragon Tales

We watched a slide show to remind us about all the exciting things we did.

In our groups we talked about and drew pictures of some of our favourite activities.

These are some of the things we said -
I liked:
'Our trip to Cardiff Castle.'
'When we saw the knight things and tried to hold the (chain) mail.'
'The flag - decorating it.'
'Playing with the castles.'

'Going on the bus and having a snore on the bus!'
'Holding a sword and mum sitting on a chair.'
'I liked going on the bus.'
'Playing with the girl castle.'
'The dragon is my favourite! '

'A dragon in an egg.'
'I touched the chain measure!'
'Pete the dragon goes bob, bob, bob!'
'There was a big, big hill (at the castle).'

'I loved the knights. (This is a picture of) ...a good guy and a bad guy. A shield and a sword. '

We all agreed when one of the children said:
'I liked doing all of it!'

We can't wait, next week we're starting our new topic:

Pitter, Patter, Puddle Play.

This sounds like it's going to be lots of fun!
